NAHI: The National Association of Home Inspectors
Headquarters: Bradenton, Florida Founded: 1987
The National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI) is a professional association of home inspectors. NAHI aims to organize home inspectors and raise the level of the professionalism within the industry as a whole. They also provide informational resources to home buyers, sellers, and real estate agents about the home inspection process.
The NAHI's Standards of Practice provide home inspectors with minimum standards and best practices for completing their work. They offer specific guidelines for inspecting heating, plumbing, electrical, and other home systems. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors.
The National Association of Home Inspectors monitors industry regulations and informs members of any changes in their state or local jurisdiction. Additionally, members of the NAHI are entitled to certain benefits, including access to marketing resources and networking opportunities.
Levels of NAHI Membership
There are four different levels of NAHI membership:
1. Provisional or Student Membership; 2. Associate Membership; 3. Regular Membership; and 4. NAHI Certified Real Estate Inspector (holds CRI designation).
NAHI Certified Real Estate Inspector (CRI)
In order to become a NAHI Certified Real Estate Inspector and earn the CRI designation, the home inspector must demonstrate their industry experience and a high level of practical knowledge. The candidate must complete a minimum of 250 inspections and receive a passing score (70% or higher) on the 140-question exam. The individual must also submit several completed inspection reports for review. In order to maintain the CRI credential, the inspector must participate in continuing education programs and pay the required dues.
